Since 1998 this web site has been maintained for the citizens of Hickory Flat in Cherokee County, Georgia.  While there is some information about county government the main topic is zoning and land use.  If you have a zoning request near your home and need help or information don't hesitate to contact me.  Zoning information is also available online from the county web site, see below.

I maintain an email list for zoning notices.  If you would like to be included please forward your email and the area where you live.  I group by location and will try to notify you about zonings in your area.  Your email address will be kept private.  I never distribute, sell or share email addresses.

For local zoning information both current and archived see Current Zonings

Dear Neighbors,

Buzz Ahrens is retiring as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.  Buzz has supported slower growth for the last 12 years.  It has been easy to be lulled into thinking that the days of out of control growth can't return, but they can.

I am not ashamed to say that I am a single issue voter and that issue is growth.  Growth is what drives our quality of life in Hickory Flat and slower, lower density, and rural development is my only focus.  Lower density development protects the quality of our schools, property values, keeps crime low,  and is the only hope for our already overburdened roads.

Harry Johnston has consistently supported slower growth over the last two decades.  I watched him on the Planning Commission and as a Commissioner.  He never failed the slow growth community.  He was at times the only voice on the BOC for slow growth.  He tried to contain the cities and their thrust into Hickory Flat.  He stood up to huge developments in the Northern reaches of Cherokee County that would have ushered in thousands of new homes.

It is our turn to support Harry.  Those of like mind have united behind him in his election for Chairman of the Board of Commissions to replace Buzz Ahrens.

Under the leadership of Buzz Ahrens we have enjoyed 12 years of recovery from the high density zonings that were approved under the prior administration.  We are still working our way past that rezoning legacy.  It is clear in Hickory Flat that a lot of damage can be done in 4 years.

Hickory Flat can not take a chance on another candidate.  Don't let the noise of the campaigns distract you from what really matters.  If growth is your issue please stand with those of us who are truly and consistently against over development. Vote for Harry Johnston on May 22, 2018.

We know Harry's track record and we know he is with us on responsible growth, lower density, and support for rural development.  Unlike his opponent  Harry has never been a builder or developer.  He does not have large contributions from the development community.  He does not have a business that depends on growth.  We can't take a chance on what candidates say they will do when Harry has a proven commitment to responsible growth.

Vote May 22, 2018 for Harry Johnston.
